Tessorio legal

Copyright and DMCA Policy

Effective October 4, 2026 · Version 2026-10-04
Draft under legal review. Tessorio is in a private beta, and this document may change before public launch.
The short version. This summary helps you find your way; the full text below is what applies.
  • Only upload and share material you own or have permission to use. You're responsible for what you upload.
  • If your work was used without permission, send us a notice and we'll remove it quickly.
  • If your material was removed by mistake, you can send a counter-notice.
  • We close the accounts of repeat infringers.

1. Uploading other people's work

Tessorio lets you build lessons from photos, PDFs, notes and other material. Most published material, including textbooks, workbooks, paid courses, test-prep books, worksheets from other teachers, and online videos, is protected by copyright. Before you upload, make sure that:

  • you created it, or it's in the public domain or under a license that allows this use (for example, some Creative Commons licenses), or
  • the owner has given you permission, for example your school's license for its own curriculum, or
  • you're confident your use is a fair use. Fair use depends on the facts; if you aren't sure, don't share a course built from it.

Courses built from uploaded files are private to you, and aren't shown on Explore unless you turn on sharing. Turning on sharing means you confirm you have the right to share everything in the course. Uploading or sharing material you don't have the right to use breaks our Terms, and you may be legally responsible to the owner.

2. Reporting infringement (DMCA notice)

We respond to notices of claimed infringement under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, 17 U.S.C. § 512. Send a written notice to our designated agent that includes:

  1. your physical or electronic signature;
  2. identification of the copyrighted work you say is infringed (or a representative list, if several);
  3. identification of the material you say is infringing, with enough detail for us to find it, such as the course or lesson link;
  4. your name, mailing address, phone number and email;
  5. a statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use isn't authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;
  6. a statement that the information in the notice is accurate, and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or authorized to act for the owner.

Designated agent: [designated agent name, once registered], Tessorio LLC, [mailing address]. Email: copyright@tessorio.com.

When we receive a valid notice, we remove or disable the material promptly, tell the user who posted it, and give them a copy of the notice. Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), anyone who knowingly misrepresents that material is infringing may be liable for damages.

3. Counter-notice

If your material was removed and you believe it was a mistake or misidentification, you may send our agent a counter-notice that includes:

  1. your physical or electronic signature;
  2. identification of the material removed and where it appeared before removal;
  3. a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed by mistake or misidentification;
  4. your name, address and phone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address (or, if outside the US, any district where we can be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who sent the original notice.

We send the counter-notice to the person who sent the original notice. Unless they tell us within 10 business days that they have filed a court action, we may restore the material 10 to 14 business days after receiving the counter-notice.

4. Repeat infringers

We keep a record of valid notices. In appropriate circumstances, we suspend sharing and uploads for, or close the accounts of, users who repeatedly infringe, generally after three valid notices, or sooner for clear or deliberate infringement.

5. AI-made content that resembles your work

Lessons are generated by AI and can occasionally resemble existing work. If you believe a Tessorio lesson or picture copies your work, send a notice as above and we will review it and remove it if appropriate.

6. Our credits to others

Photos and diagrams from Wikimedia Commons are used under their free licenses and credited on screen. If a credit is wrong or missing, email copyright@tessorio.com and we'll fix it.
