Privacy Policy
- We collect what we need to build lessons for how each person learns, and not more.
- We keep an age range, never a birthday. We don't sell personal information, show ads, or use it for targeted advertising.
- Names, emails and phone numbers are stripped out before anything goes to an AI provider.
- Anything about a learner goes only to paid AI providers that have agreed not to keep it or train on it.
- Uploaded files are read on our own server, and only text we extract from them is used, except pictures a teacher or creator chooses as references for AI drawings.
- You can see, correct, download or delete your information by emailing privacy@tessorio.com.
This policy explains how Tessorio LLC ("we") handles personal information in Tessorio (the "Service"). For learners under 13, our Children's Privacy Notice adds more detail and protections. For schools, a signed data privacy agreement controls where it differs from this policy.
1. What we collect
| Information | Examples | Where it comes from |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Email address used to sign in; the account holder's name; plan and use case; parent or teacher PIN (stored only as a one-way hash); an age range (13–17 or 18+) worked out from birth month and year, which themselves aren't kept. | You, at sign-up |
| Learner profile | First name or nickname, grade or stage, age, first language, how they like to learn, reading level, pace, interests, goals, and anything you choose to tell us about their needs (for example "loses focus after ten minutes"). | You, or the parent or teacher who adds the learner |
| Class | Class name, subject, grade, school name (optional), goals, curriculum, students' names as the teacher enters them, class code and link PINs. | The teacher |
| Learning activity | Courses and lessons requested and built, progress, check-in and practice answers, scores, readiness checks, review pile, lab work, and conversations with the lesson tutor. | Use of the Service |
| Voice questions | If you use the microphone button to ask the tutor a question, your browser turns your speech into text. We receive only the text. See section 4. | Your browser |
| Uploads and materials | Photos, screenshots, PDFs, text files and notes you add, and the text we extract from them. | You |
| Technical | IP address, browser and device type, pages requested, times, and error logs. | Your device, our servers and Cloudflare |
Please don't give us sensitive information we don't need, such as medical diagnoses, Social Security numbers, or a student's special-education or disciplinary records. A short note about how someone learns best is enough to shape their lessons.
2. How we use it
- To provide the Service: build courses, lessons, narration, pictures, labs and practice for each learner, answer tutor questions, track progress, and show parents and teachers how learners are doing.
- To keep the Service safe: sign-in, the age check, parent and teacher PINs, preventing abuse and fraud, enforcing our Terms, and fixing problems.
- To improve the Service: understanding which features work, measuring lesson quality and speed, and fixing errors. We don't use learners' content or information to train AI models.
- To communicate with you about your account, security, and changes to our terms. We don't send marketing to learners under 18.
- To comply with the law and respond to lawful requests.
Interests you give us are used to suggest courses in Explore. They aren't sent to AI providers when lessons are built.
3. AI providers, and what they receive
- Names and contact details are removed. Before any request leaves our server, we remove the names of everyone on the account and any email address or phone number from it.
- Learner requests (anything a learner typed, said or uploaded, and anything about a learner's profile) go only to paid AI providers that have agreed not to keep the data after answering and not to train on it. They never go to free AI models.
- Teacher and creator drafting (a teacher's or creator's own curriculum or notes, with nothing about a learner) may also be processed by other AI models, whose providers may keep it under their own terms.
- Uploaded files are read on our own server, including with text recognition for pictures and scanned pages, and only the extracted text, with names removed, is used to plan lessons. The one exception: in Course Studio, a teacher or creator can mark their own pictures as references for AI-drawn pictures. Those are sent to Google's image service only if an automatic check on our server finds no faces, names, contact details, addresses or ID numbers in them.
The providers we use are listed on our Service Providers page. More about AI is in How Tessorio Uses AI.
4. When information is shared
We don't sell personal information, and we don't share it for targeted advertising. We share it only:
- With service providers who process it for us under contract, only to run the Service (see Service Providers).
- Within your account. Parents see their children's activity. Teachers see their class's activity. Learners on a class don't see a teacher's view, and teachers don't see a learner's personal courses outside the class.
- When you share a course. A shared course's title, lessons and videos can be seen by others, credited only as "built for a learner" or with a course creator's brand, never with a learner's name. A course built for a child on a family account, or for one student in a class, is never shown publicly; a teacher may share a course built for the whole class. Courses built by teens, and courses built from uploaded files, are shown only if their owner turns sharing on.
- For legal reasons: to comply with law or legal process, to protect the safety of any person, or to protect our rights and users.
- In a business transfer, such as a merger or sale, where the buyer must keep protecting the information as this policy promises.
Voice input. The tutor's microphone button uses your browser's built-in speech recognition. Some browsers, including Google Chrome, send the audio to their maker (for Chrome, Google) to turn it into text under that company's privacy policy. We never receive or store the audio. If you'd rather not, type your question instead; parents can ask children to type.
5. Cookies and similar technology
We use only cookies the Service needs to work. We don't use advertising cookies, analytics trackers, or cross-site tracking.
| Cookie | Purpose |
|---|---|
| CF_Authorization | Keeps you signed in (set by Cloudflare Access, our sign-in provider). |
| sfa_profile | Remembers which learner is using the device. |
| sfa_manager | Keeps the parent or teacher view open after the PIN is entered. |
| sfa_account | Remembers the account on a local, offline install. |
| sfa_age_gate | Remembers for 30 days that someone under 13 tried to sign up on this device, so they can't retry with a different year. |
Some screens also store small settings in your browser (like a filter you picked). Our pages load fonts from Google Fonts, which receives your IP address to deliver them.
6. How long we keep it
- Account, profile, class and learning information: while the account is open. If you delete a learner or your account, we delete their information within 30 days.
- Uploads and extracted text: until you delete them, the course they belong to, or your account.
- Server and error logs: up to 90 days, unless needed longer to investigate a security problem.
- Backups: deleted information may remain in backups for up to 90 days, then is overwritten.
- Records of what you agreed to, and of copyright notices: as long as needed to show we followed the law.
- We may close accounts that have been inactive for 24 months, after trying to contact you, and delete their information.
7. Your choices and rights
You can see and change most of your information in Settings and in the parent or teacher view. You can also ask us to give you a copy of your information, correct it, delete it, or stop using it, by emailing privacy@tessorio.com from the email you sign in with. We respond within 30 days (45 where state law allows), and we may need to confirm your identity first.
Depending on where you live, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia, Texas and other states with privacy laws, you may have more rights, such as to know what we collect, to delete, to correct, to receive a portable copy, and to opt out of sale, targeted advertising or profiling with significant effects. We don't sell, do targeted advertising, or make decisions with legal or similarly significant effects about anyone automatically. You may use an authorized agent. If we deny your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer, and if you disagree with the result you can contact your state attorney general. We will never treat you differently for using these rights.
Students' information on a class account is controlled by the school. Parents of students should contact the school first; we help the school respond.
8. Security
We protect information with measures including encrypted connections, sign-in through Cloudflare Access with one-time codes, hashed PINs, restricting who can reach our server, removing names from AI requests, and keeping only what we need. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal information, we will tell you and the authorities as the law requires.
9. Where information is processed
We are based in the United States, and information is stored and processed in the United States. Some service providers may process it elsewhere under their contracts with us. The Service isn't currently offered in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland.
10. Changes
We will post changes here with a new effective date. If a change is significant, we will tell account holders in the app or by email before it takes effect, and we will ask parents for new consent before using children's information in a materially different way.
